Course 1 (5 days)
15-19th January 2024
Rug Weaving Techniques (1) deals with basic Rug techniques such as Tabby and Twill weave. There is a particular focus on setting-up the loom, material and weaving theory and skill training in order to learn good weaving practice.
Course 2 (5 days)
11-15th March 2024
Design Development (1) is about achieving a good design practice. With input and various sources of inspiration we continue with the same techniques as included in course 1 (the basic techniques). From there we develop new ideas, formats, color combinations through wrapping, sketching and weaving samples. In all, 5 design processes, one for each course day.
Course 3 (5 days)
13-17th May 2024
Rug Weaving Techniques (2) deals with Rug Weaving in blocks, e.g. Overshot, Crackle Weave, Opphämta, Munkbelt, Summer & Winter etc. We also deal with material and weaving theory and further skill training.
Course 4 (5 days)
12-16th August 2024
Design development (2) is about gaining more design practice. With input and various sources of inspiration we continue with the same techniques as included in course 2 (the block techniques). From there we develop new ideas, formats, color combinations through wrapping, sketching and weaving samples. In all, 5 design processes, one for each course day.
Course 5 (5 days)
21-15th October 2024
Rug Weaving Techniques (3) deals with Weaves with Binding Warp and Main warp – with/without bottom, e.g. Beiderwand/ Taqueté. Also we focus on setting-up looms, material and weaving theory and yet more skill training.

Course 6 (5 days)
13-17th January 2025
Design development (3) is about achieving even more design practice. With input and various sources of inspiration we continue with the same techniques as included in course 3 (the Binding thread techniques). From there we develop new ideas, formats, color combinations through wrapping, sketching and weaving samples. In all, 5 design processes, one for each course day.
Course 7 (5 days)
10-14th March 2025
Picked up techniques are about the ways you can pick up different techniques and patterns. This is used, for example, if you do not have enough shafts or if you do not have a damask loom or a shaft changer. Or simply because the different picks are fun to weave.
Course 8 (5 days)
12-16th May 2025
Shaft-switching about mounting and setting up the loom. The shaft -switcher was originally invented by the English weaver Peter Collingwood and we have used parts of his invention to develop our own Shaft Switch. In the course you learn to calculate (beregne) and weave your patterns in e.g. weft faced rug techniques in plain and Twill weave.
Course 9 (5 days)
18-22th August 2025
Rugs with pile are all about weaving Ryijy, Flos, Nopp and Corduroy. Based on different bottom, we weave the piles with the techniques as e.g. Korndrejl, Canvas, Plain, Twill, Kuvikas etc.
Course 10 (5 days)
20-24th October 2025
Collingwood techniques are mainly based on tehniques with Crossed Weft and Clasp. The course includes more design development and skill training.
Graduation process
After the 10 courses, you can choose to join an exam group which includes a graduate course with Design Development. Here you do your own design for a rug weaving project.
After the course, a 4-month working period (homework) is set aside to complete your rug project. After this, an exhibition will be set up and an assessment of the result will be held by an external assessor. (This course is not included in the above price).
